FAQS

About Induction Lighting – Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What exactly is an Eco Lighting USA Product?
A: The Eco Lighting USA product, at its core, is a fluorescent lamp without electrodes.
This advanced technology lamp relies on magnetic induction to ignite the phosphors inside rather than electrodes. Since the lamp does not have any components which can burn out, it’s life-span is rated at 100,000 hours, lasting more than 100 incandescent,
5 HID, or 5 typical fluorescent lamp changes. Remember that electrodes are components which burn out in a linear lamp resulting in frequent replacements.

Q: Is this is GREEN product?
A: YES!!  Eco Lighting USA Products are 100% recyclable and earth friendly.

Q: Is the Eco Lighting USA product a new technology?
A: No, induction lighting has been around for 100 years. Only recently have advancements been made which have paved the way for the use of induction lighting in a wide variety of industrial, commercial and now residential applications

Q: What voltage can these fixtures operate in?
A: Our lamps are available in 110v, 120v, 220v, and 277v.

Q: How are these incredible life hours achieved?
A: This technology produces these incredible hours by eliminating the need for filaments and electrodes as used in the typical fluorescent and incandescent lamps.  Instead it uses induction coils to energize the lamp. Without a filament to burn out, the lamp life and efficiency are increased dramatically.

Q: Are these lamps energy efficient?
A: Yes, the Eco Lighting USA fixtures are equipped with electronic ballasts which operate at a high frequency rate. Typically a 200w induction lamp can be compared to a new 400w Metal Halide from a light output standpoint however the 200w induction fixture pulls 204 watts where as the 400w HID pulls about 454 watts. Another advantage is that it also operates at a very low temperature.  A plus where excessive heat generation is a concern.

Q: How does induction lighting work?
A: A combination of the basic principles of electromagnetic induction and gas discharge are used in a revolutionary technology of light generation. With the benefit of not having electrodes this unique product delivers an unprecedented 100,000 hours of high quality, cost effective light.

Q: Why induction lighting?
A: Induction lamps are so long-lasting they are virtually maintenance free. These lamps also offer crisp white light and can produce up to 70% in energy savings.

Q: Is a dedicated fixture required for induction lamps?
A: Yes. Due to thermal and operating requirements the induction lamp needs to be properly installed in a suitable fixture. Many existing fixtures can be successfully retrofitted.

Q: Does the operation of these lamps interfere with other electronic devices?
A: No. Under normal operating circumstances there is no interference experienced. These lamps run at a low 210 KHz and are compliant with FCC rules.

Q: Does the system interfere with telecommunication equipment?
A: No. Cell phones and other mobile devices will not experience any interruption in service due to the induction system.

Q: Does the operating position affect light output?
A: No. The performance of the induction lamp system is not altered by its operating position.

Q: Is the system resistant to vibration?
A: Yes. Because induction lamps are electrode less they are more reliable in high vibration applications. The system has been used in bridges, tunnels, and on signage with proven durability.

Q: Will materials become damaged or faded under induction lighting?
A: No, the damage factor for materials is rated at a minimal 0.3 therefore these lamps can be used in open luminaries without any front glass or lens.

Q: How far can the ballast be remotely mounted from the lamp assembly?
A:The electronic ballast can be installed up to 10 meters away from the lamp.

Q: Must all components be replaced at the same time?
A: The two components can be replaced separately; however induction lighting systems are almost always sold as a two component system (lamp and ballast) even for replacement.

Q: Why is induction lighting worth more?
An induction lighting system offers a lamp-life increase of 5 to 10 times.  In most cases the payback in maintenance savings and energy consumption will more than offset the additional cost of the initial system.

Q: Where can the Eco Lighting USA Product be used?
A: This product can be used in various applications. It is suitable for interior office buildings, supermarkets, hotels, schools, factories, theatres, gymnasiums, and some residential use. They are also suitable for exterior use such as street lighting, bridges, tunnels, parking lots, shopping centers, shipping docks, and car lots.

Q: Is this lighting system safe to use?
A: All Eco Lighting USA Lamps and ballasts (120V) have passed rigorous UL and UL-C testing for use in North America.

Q: Can I order samples for evaluation and sale promotion?
A: Absolutely!  Contact our sales department for pricing on all samples.

Q: What wattages are currently available in Eco Lighting USA’s product line?
A: Wattages currently available are 12w, 15w,18w, 20w,  23w, 40w, 60w, 70w,  80w, 100w, 120w, 150w, 200w, 250w, 300w, and 400w depending on the type of lamp.

Q: What are the available color temperatures for the Eco Lighting USA Lamps?
A: The color temperatures available are 2700k, 3500k, 4000k, 5000k, and 6500k, depending on the lamp.

Q: Are the Eco Lighting USA Lamps Ballast Multi-Tap?
A: Eco Lighting USA lamp fixtures are supplied with voltage specific ballast.

Q: Are the lights dimmable?
A: Yes, most of the external-ballasted product line is dimmable upon request.

Q: What temperature can Eco Lighting USA’s Lamp operate at?
A:The majority of these fixtures operate from -20 degrees to 122 degrees interior, -40 degrees to 140 degrees exterior, allowing for a wide-range of applications where other lighting sources would be… well, useless. J

Q: What are the life hours of this Product?
A: There are 2 different types of lamps that Eco Lighting USA manufacturers.  The self ballast screw in lamps have a life span of  30,000 to 60,000 hours.  The external-ballasted models carry a life-expectancy of 100,000 hours.
